Measurement plan in Zeiss Calypso: CAD model with simulated stylus deployment

Calypso CMM programs — written and optimised

Robust Calypso measurement plans. No machine downtime.

When more measurement plans are due than your measuring room can handle: CSL writes and optimises measurement plans in Zeiss Calypso — CAD-based, parametric with PCM, up to curves and free-form surfaces. Offline at our own workstation, commissioned by CSL or by you on your Zeiss CMM.

Common starting points

Open measurement plans before the series start
CSL writes the measurement plans in parallel at the offline workstation — your machine keeps measuring.
Every variant is programmed individually
CSL parametrises part families with PCM — one common base instead of many individual plans.
Curves and free-form surfaces exceed the routine
Curve and free-form surface measurement, cleanly integrated into the measurement strategy — with traceable reasoning.
Specialists at capacity — or the know-how is not in-house
Holidays, vacancy, capacity peak: CSL bridges the gap — the measurement plans belong to you and remain maintainable.
Modules

What we program in Zeiss Calypso

Standard measurement plans
CAD-based measurement plans for regular geometry — cleanly built and traceably structured.
PCM
Parametric programming — for part families and variant-rich parts.
Curve
Curve measurement — capturing and evaluating profiles and contours.
Freeform
Measuring and evaluating free-form surfaces — beyond regular geometry.
Measurement plan from PMI
Measurement plan generation from PMI — your model annotations become the measurement plan.
Multi-sensor
Tactile and optical sensors combined — in one measurement plan.
Why CSL for Calypso
From regular geometry to free-form surfaces
CSL builds measurement plans that fit the measurement strategy: datum systems cleanly set, characteristics traceably structured, parametric where part families demand it. Critical programs automatically go through the internal four-eyes check.
Qualified measuring laboratory
Certified to ISO 9001. CSL proves out CMM programs in its own measuring room at the reference temperature of 20 °C per ISO 1. For suitable CMM measurements, measurement uncertainty is evaluated in accordance with ISO 15530-3 using calibrated workpieces.

Process

From enquiry to commissioned program

Five steps, clear roles: you provide the basis, CSL programs — commissioning as agreed.

1
CAD + drawings
CAD as STEP, drawings or existing programs.
2
Quote
Effort-based and transparent.
3
Data exchange
Stylus data, machine configuration, fixturing, software version.
4
Programming
Offline at CSL, without occupying your machine — or in your environment.
5
Commissioning and handover
By CSL or by you — critical programs with a four-eyes check.
Working together

Two ways of working with CSL

Individual order
One program or a defined package — quoted effort-based and transparently. The low-risk entry point, also as a clearly bounded pilot program.
Flexible block of hours
The preferred working model for recurring demand: an agreed block of hours for programming and optimisation — a partnership instead of order by order. Uncomplicated call-off without repeated quoting, short response paths — plannable for both sides: your budget, our capacity.

Outcome

What you get out of it

CAD-based and maintainable
PCM, Curve, Freeform and PMI properly used — not clicked together.
No machine downtime
Programmed offline, commissioned by us or by you.
Handover without a black box
You receive the program documented and can develop it further yourself.

Frequently asked

What customers want to know before the project

Do you create measurement plans directly from PMI data?
Yes — we generate measurement plans from PMI-annotated CAD models and work them up into a robust measurement strategy.
Do you combine tactile and optical measurement?
Yes — Zeiss Calypso allows multi-sensor measurement plans; we define which characteristic is measured tactilely and which optically.
Do you offer a Q-DAS connection?
Yes — we connect Zeiss Calypso to Q-DAS and populate the K-fields to your specifications. The same applies to Mitutoyo MCOSMOS and Hexagon PC-DMIS.
Do you also design the measurement reports?
Yes — we set up the report layout to your specifications. On request, the program automatically files each report at the defined location — correctly named via variables such as article, order or serial number.
Who commissions the program and releases it?
Purely offline programs are commissioned and released by you — or we take over the commissioning on your machine as part of the order.
What cannot be conclusively verified offline?
Without the real machine, machine, stylus, fixturing and collision conditions remain assumptions from the simulation. Commissioning confirms or corrects them.
Is commissioning a validation?
No. Commissioning is neither a formal validation nor a measurement process capability study — that is a separate service according to VDA 5 or MSA.
What is the scope of delivery?
The agreed CMM program. After full payment it belongs to you — use, copy, modify and transfer it freely.
